Rena has been perfecting her baking skill for years using traditional ingredients. Her husband has been homebrewing for over 15 years, so there was no shortage of beer and beer ingredients around the house.
She started by making dog biscuits based on a recipe from the Brew Your Own magazine using the spent grain that was a by-product of the brewing process. The dog biscuits were tasty (for dogs and people), so with a little trial and error Rena developed an excellent recipe for crackers. The crackers were a big hit with the Backwoods Carboys homebrew club. Rena took it to the next level by baking bread with spent grain and baking desserts with craft beer and malt extract. She was encouraged to share her baked goods with the public, thus Craft Cakes was born.
Rena currently bakes in her home in Tullahoma, TN. She takes custom orders for pickup or local delivery and will be providing her products at local brew festivals and other events.
